Extended or stretched labia can have a significant impact on a woman’s vaginal health and self-esteem. Pain during sex, chafing, and general irritation are all common complaints from women with larger labia. Labiaplasty is a procedure used to alter the shape and size of the labia to correct symmetry and relieve discomfort.
Labiaplasty is a simple procedure that doesn’t typically require a lengthy recovery period. Our board certified plastic surgeons understand that every woman is different. And no one treatment will suit every patient. At The South Florida Center for Cosmetic Surgery, our surgeons are skilled in various labiaplasty techniques, ensuring each patient receives the best treatment to achieve their desired results.
Although it’s common for women to be unhappy with the appearance of their labia, they are often too embarrassed to discuss their concerns. Our surgeons are committed to providing a comfortable environment for patients to learn more about labiaplasty surgery. Generally, a labiaplasty reduces and/or reshapes the labia to relieve painful symptoms and improve self-confidence.
Labiaplasty surgery starts at $1,499, not including anesthesia and surgeon fees. The cost depends on several factors, including the complexity of the procedure and the specific labiaplasty technique your surgeon uses. Your labiaplasty surgery will be tailored to your individual needs and concerns, and the actual cost will be determined during your initial consultation.
The South Florida Center for Cosmetic Surgery is committed to finding the most convenient payment method for each patient. We offer financing through three third-party companies, who provide flexible payment plans with instant credit-based approval. Aside from financing, we also maintain a network of experienced physicians and vendors to ensure we find a payment plan that suits your lifestyle.

During your initial visit, expect to provide your complete medical history, including all your medications, allergies, and previous surgeries. You’ll also undergo an extensive physical exam and blood tests before your surgeon takes photographs to aid in planning and performing your labiaplasty procedure. Finally, you’ll receive important instructions to prepare for treatment, including cautions about taking certain medications or drinking alcohol, and protocols for shaving and using antibacterial soap.
There are two types of labiaplasty procedures. The first type, the trim method, involves excess tissue being removed and sewn up directly. During this procedure, your surgeon will make a long incision along the edge of the labia minora (inner labia) to remove excess tissue. The second method is called the wedge procedure. The wedge method involves shorter incisions across the width of the labia. Your surgeon will remove a small, V-shaped wedge of tissue, and the remaining tissue is stitched together. All incisions are sutured with dissolvable stitches. The entire procedure usually takes between one and two hours.
After surgery, you will experience some discomfort once your anesthesia wears off. Our goal is to keep you as comfortable as possible. So, your surgeon will provide you with medication to mitigate your pain and soreness. Any swelling will be substantially reduced approximately one month after your surgery. At that time, you may also resume your normal level of physical activity. Ask your surgeon about any concerns or questions you have about the recovery process.
Following labiaplasty surgery, occlusive ointment (Aquaphor) or vaginal hydrating gel (RepHresh) can be used to soothe and keep the treatment area moist for up to 1 week. Most patients can return to work and normal activities after 2-3 weeks. However, you should refrain from sex and using tampons for at least 4-6 weeks after surgery. Your surgeon will provide a detailed list of post-surgery instructions specific to your procedure during your initial consultation.
You can expect a reduction in the length or overall size of your labia and relief from associated symptoms, including twisting and tugging, chafing, and pain during sex.
During both the wedge and trim procedures, your surgeon will trim the labia, removing excess tissue and correcting symmetry, if necessary. Once the excess tissue has been removed, your surgeon will close the incisions using dissolvable stitches for a smooth recovery. Both procedures are performed under general anesthesia.
Yes. Labiaplasty is an outpatient procedure and does not require a significant recovery period. Most patients can return to work within a few days and resume strenuous activities and exercise within 2-3 weeks. Your doctor will follow your progress closely and advise you as to which activities are safe during your healing process.
A labiaplasty procedure usually takes between one to two hours and is performed under general or local anesthesia. General anesthesia is used for all surgical procedures at the South Florida Center and is always performed by a professional M.D. Anesthesiologist.
You can resume sexual activity and wear tampons 4-6 weeks after vaginal rejuvenation surgery.
Birth trauma can result in tears regardless of whether or not you had a labiaplasty. However, these tears are usually not along the labiaplasty incision.
Vaginal rejuvenation refers to three different procedures that change the appearance of the female genitalia. The three vaginal rejuvenation surgeries are labiaplasty, clitoral hood reduction, and vaginoplasty. Both labiaplasty and clitoral hood reduction involve your surgeon removing excess vaginal skin, whereas excess vaginal tissue is removed from the vaginal wall during vaginoplasty.
