Male Plastic Surgery

Why more men are having plastic surgeryStatistics from the leading plastic surgery associations show that male plastic surgery is on the rise. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons highlighted this in their 2014 report on plastic surgery, noting that more than 13 percent of plastic surgery patients are men. This is a trend that South Florida Center for Cosmetic Surgery has seen crop up in our own practice. Here, our team explains a few of the reasons why more men are pursuing plastic surgery.

To Look As Young as They Feel

Men in their 30s, 40s, 50s and even 60s are more active than ever. They exercise regularly and follow a healthy diet to maintain a great physique. However, time marches on, and aging can leave its mark, especially on the facial features. The motivation to look younger in the face can come from several places, including competition in the workforce, re-entry into the dating pool after divorce or simply the personal desire for greater confidence.

To combat wrinkles, fine lines and other common signs of aging, many of our male patients seek facelift or eyelid surgery. These procedures rejuvenate the face so it reflects a youthful, active spirit. Non-surgical treatment alternatives, such as Botox or dermal filler injections, can have similar anti-aging effects with minimal downtime — perfect for the busy father or business executive.

To Refine Their Physique

Some men work out regularly and eat well, but have unwanted fat in an area of their body that won’t respond to diet and exercise. Popular examples include the “spare tire” around the middle and enlarged male breasts. Body contouring treatment with liposuction or male breast reduction are great ways to eliminate unwanted body fat and create a more masculine-looking physique.

To Correct a Troublesome Feature

Another common reason men pursue plastic surgery is to fix an inherited feature that has caused life-long embarrassment (e.g., a crooked nose, oversized ears). These men are tired of feeling self-conscious and want a permanent solution. Rhinoplasty is a popular option to improve the shape, size and features of the nose, and otoplasty to correct oversized or protruding ears.

Top 5 Plastic Surgery For Men

At South Florida Center for Cosmetic Surgery, women are not our only patients. We serve men seeking aesthetic improvement of various areas of their bodies and faces. Although men

generally do not like to reveal whether they have had cosmetic surgery, they are increasingly showing interest in these types of procedures. In recent years, men have displayed interest in cosmetic procedures such as tummy tuck, face lift and neck lift, hair transplant and laser hair removal, and more.  According to data collected by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the following were the top five plastic surgery procedures among men in 2013.

#1: Rhinoplasty Plastic Surgery For Men

A new study by the American Socieinjectable fillers

  • cheek fillers

ty of Plastic Surgeons has shown that men have been increasingly opting for rhinoplasty or nose reshaping surgery. In 2013 alone more than 57,000 male patients had it, constituting 26 percent of total Rhinoplasty patients in this year’s data.

Rhinoplasty is a type of cosmetic procedure which can involve removing excess cartilage and skin from parts of your nostrils to improve their shape as well as changing other aspects like bridge height and width, birth or trauma defects of the nose, and more.

Nose reshaping surgery can be an important step in becoming your most authentic self once again if you’re unhappy with the way your nose looks. Our surgeons are happy to perform this operation on those who wish to change something about themselves so they may live better lives.

#2: Eyelid Plastic Surgery For Men

“Eyelid lift” or Blepharoplasty is an effective way of removing sagging skin on the upper and lower eyelids. The procedure can be used by both men and women who want that perfect refreshed look! Currently, more than 30,000 male patients had blepharoplasty in 2013 because they wanted a youthful appearance around their eyes.

#3: Liposuction Plastic Surgery For Men

Over 23,500 men underwent liposuction in 2013 to remove stubborn fat that is resistant to healthy diet and exercise habits from their “problem areas.” This number is up 3 percent from the previous year.

#4: Breast Reduction: Gynecomastia Plastic Surgery for Men

Gynecomastia is a condition in males characterized by excessive glandular breast tissue, excess fat and skin throughout the chest, or a combination of these, which leads to the appearance of enlarged male breasts. In 2013, nearly 23,000 men had male breast reduction or gynecomastia surgery in the United States. Gynecomastia is an exclusively male plastic surgery. During the procedure, the surgeon performs liposuction of the breasts following by removing excess skin and glandular tissue, resulting in a more masculine appearance of the torso.

#5: Facelift Plastic Surgery For Men

As with eyelid surgery, facelift surgery is an effective way to achieve a more youthful, rejuvenated look throughout the face. Again, the numbers prove that men, too, want to stave off the hands of time. More than 12,500 males underwent a facelift procedure in 2013 — 7 percent more than the previous year. It’s common to combine facelift procedure with neck lift to ensure the best result.
